A holiday using public transport on Mull – part 2!
This is part two of F and N’s wonderful blog about a holiday using public transport on Mull. Thank you to N and F, part 1 is here. Part 3 is here.
Normally, because of our work in tourism, we are not allowed to take holidays from April to September. However this time an exception was made and our holiday week on Treshnish was from 4 April to 11 April in Shian.
The landscape looked completely different. It helped that the sun shone continuously and, for the first time since we came to the Isle of Mull, we had a week without a drop of rain.

Lambing time
The first lambs had been born, it was a wonderful week for bird watching, the first flowers were already blooming and the countryside was beautiful. Every day started with a cup of coffee outside, enjoying the sunrise in silence with only the sound of small birds, the cawing of a raven or a bleating sheep. All the stress of work melted away.
On the first day, we went for a walk to the deserted villages, always a beautiful walk where we usually encounter deer. This time we didn’t see them during the walk to Crackaig, but every evening they walked around our cottage.
While hunting for adders, we came across sand lizards, which we had never seen there before. A sea eagle hovered in the air above our heads. So the first day of our holiday got off to a spectacular start. There was no rain, so we didn’t have to keep the camera under our coats during the walk and were able to take lots of beautiful photos.

The story of Eagle
Later in the week, we found a lamb that had probably been caught by an eagle. The animal was behaving a little strangely and closer inspection revealed some wounds, so we called Somerset. According to him, the lamb had a 100% chance of survival, in his care. Nancy was able to feed the lamb, now named Eagle, with a bottle. She had never done that before and thought Eagle was super cute. Needless to say, we visited Eagle every day to see how he was doing. Somerset is more than fantastic with his sheep.
PS Eagle is full recovered from his ordeal – he is now in the stack yard beside the Studio, with our other pet lambs!
