August is show time on the Isle of Mull
August is show time on the Isle of Mull, with the Bunessan Show on the Ross of Mull. This takes place on the 1st Friday of the month. The second show is the Salen Show which is always held on the 2nd Thursday of the month. (Just before the Mull schools go back). Lastly but not least The Tobermory Flower Show is on the 19th August 2023.
Bunessan Show
We took sheep for the first time this year. Some of our Herdwicks, including Ferg the young tup we bought from James and Helen Rebanks. It was the first time Herdwicks had entered the show! Sadly they didn’t win any prizes. However we won first prize for our Treshnish eggs in the Produce tent which was unexpected! Our 6 year old guest entered several classes and came home with two blue rosettes so she was delighted!
Salen Show
The Salen Show is situated in a field beside the water where the River Aros comes out to meet the sea. It is a stunning location, and the show itself is well worth a visit. There is always some special entertainment on for children. This year a Bouncy castle and a puppet show. There was target shooting as well for the most adventurous!
This year we took some Herdwicks again, and came home with a yellow and blue rosette. The eggs only got second this time. The basket of vegetables grown in the Treshnish garden looked beautiful and we were very proud to get a first!
There is always something different going on. This is a blog from 2014.
Taking part
You don’t have to be a Mull resident to take part in the children’s classes. If your children would like to take part both shows have a Facebook page, also Salen has its own website. Nearer the time you will find the schedules there, so you know what classes there are.
