Calgary planning application
I wanted to draw your attention to a Calgary planning application live on the Argyll and Bute planning portal at the moment. It is to site a 4 bedroom house near Calgary pier.
This view of Calgary Bay, along the north shore of the bay is a precious parcel of undeveloped land. With abundant wildlife and biodiversity, it is an important wildlife sanctuary highly valued by residents and visitors.

Local Development Plan
The chosen site for this house is not within the Calgary settlement area. It would be the only house on the north side of Calgary Bay, a Local Conservation area.

Site of Special Scientific Interest
The Calgary Machair SSSI includes half of the access track to the proposed house site. The plan to widen the track to a minimum of 3.5m and a maximum of 5.5m would decimate this valuable habitat. The application also talks of rerouting the public access path onto the shore line (which would require clambering over boulders).

Biodiversity
Otter, Adder, Slow worm, Transparent burnet moth (nationally scarce), White tailed and Golden eagles, Hen harriers – all recorded here, and the proposed house site is in the middle of an Otter territory.
There is a good population of both Otters and Adders in this location, both are heavily protected species in the UK.
Juniper, Aspen and Elm occur in the SSSI – all on the Scottish Biodiversity List.
