Eco friendly cottages
There are 8 eco friendly cottages and a shepherd’s hut at Treshnish on Mull. Located near the beautiful Calgary Bay, we have been members of the GTBS since 1999. We were awarded our first Gold Award in 2001. Very proud that we have held it ever since.
Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS)
The bi-annual visits from the GTBS inspectors help to keep us on the right track. They ask a lot of questions as to what we are doing, and offer a lot of useful advice. There is always something new to learn about. We strive to continue improving the sustainability of our eco friendly cottages.
‘One of the ‘top 10′ Green Tourism Businesses in the UK’ according to Andrea Nicholas, GTBS. We were the first eco friendly cottages in Scotland to win both the GTBS Goldstar Award and the Carbon Footprint Award at the inaugural Green Tourism awards in 2011.
Our ethos after 25+ years at Treshnish is essentially still the same, though we are better at achieving our goals now than back when we first started out along this path. We want to improve the environmental performance of our eco friendly cottages business as much as we can – whether it is protecting young trees so they can grow or insulating a cottage so it becomes more energy efficient.Planning and doing
We think of the future when making decisions for today; continue to monitor our energy consumption; responsibly source and use materials; support our local community and re-use/reduce/recycle.
Adopting domestic scaled renewables to generate electricity has helped reduce our carbon footprint. And also, we are now generating 80% of our annual requirements.
We welcome your thoughts too, whilst you are here, if there is any aspect of sustainability that you think we could improve upon.
