You don’t really expect Dolphin sightings on Mull in November?! So we were delighted (and astonished) by a dolphin sighting in Calgary Bay – yesterday. A friend spotted them as she was driving along the bay from Calgary to Treshnish!
My brother and I drove down to see if we could see them, and watched them for quite a while. There were at least 4 of them, and we watched eagerly for their fins to cut above the surface of the water, as they swam along the bay. They seemed to dive for quite some time before leaping up out of the water, what a joyful sight it was.
Eventually they turned out of the bay again, heading along the Treshnish shoreline. We headed home again watching them as we drove along the coast and catching up with them again once at the farm, as we could see them from the house. They spent quite a lot of time just off shore by the mount of the Ensay burn, easily watchable through binoculars from the garden wall. What a great treat.
The other great treat this week has been the weather! What beautiful mornings we have had, and the sun shining all day. It is only the temperature which reminds me it is November not May.
