We stopped to drink our flask of tea above the deserted settlement of Glac Gugaraidh, and had a surprising early sighting of an Adder! I got such a fright.
Early sighting
I had been thinking just a few minutes beforehand that at this time of year any Adders would still be hibernating. It had been very sunny this morning, and after the cold north-westerly winds of yesterday, it was warm! It was overcast this afternoon and cooler out of the sun. This Adder had obviously chosen a sunny spot to lie, but I was surprised that it was still there.
Glac Gugaraidh
Glac Gugaraidh sits nestled in a sunny glen, with its back to the prevailing winds. I love the line of the Treshnish Isles disappearing into the February haze.
White tailed eagle
Guests staying in East a few weeks ago had had a wonderful afternoon watching a White tailed eagle. I wonder if this is the same one? It hung around here most of the afternoon. Sitting on a knoll near Duill Cottage to begin with, and then moving into the Black Park. It kept Farmer company as he was filling potholes.
