One of the daily tasks for Farmer is filling the bird feeders. We have increased the number around the farmhouse this year, and seen a satisfying increase in the number of garden birds. There is something very cheeky about the Lomond browns we got from Donald MacDonald on the Isle of Skye. They spend most of their day underneath the bird feeders pecking away at the wasted corn that falls from above.
We certainly didn’t expect this this morning. No wonder we get through a lot of bird seed.
The Aracona cockerel keeps a constant eye out. Very protective of his hens.
The hens are still laying really well and now that the cottages are quieter, (less guests to give our surplus to) we have to accost anyone we see to ask if they would like some of their beautiful brown eggs.
