Loch Cuin

January 19, 2015

Loch Cuin is a sea loch beside the pretty conservation village of Dervaig, about 8 miles away from Treshnish. The church spire of Kilmore Church overlooks the head of the loch and it is a great spot for bird watching. There has even been a kingfisher, though I didn’t see it! There are various places you can pull off the road without disturbing the traffic, and walk along the shore to bird watch or just watch! It is a beautiful area.

This morning we woke to a hard frost and a beautiful clear sky so I thought there was a good chance I might see ice on Loch Cuin, and I was not disappointed. Perhaps it isn’t a miracle given the fresh water coming into the loch from the River Bellart but it always seems magical, especially on a day like today when the sun was shining and the sky was so clear and blue. Needless to say I was a little late for my meeting in Craignure…
