It is the first of March today, a new page in the book of the year, and I wonder what March weather on Mull will bring us this time round. A sixth of the year has gone, and we are only 3 weeks away from the Spring Equinox so the days are noticeably longer which makes such a difference. We have had 4 cottages booked for the last weekend in February and it is lovely to see each different party out walking at different times of day and in different weather moods. The storm overnight took the power out, a fault near Dervaig, but it was restored within a couple of hours. No one seemed to mind as it was late in the evening.
This morning we walked through the Black Park and down to the shore. The sun was out. Such a contrast to yesterday which said good riddance to February in wet and grim language. Today the wind was invigorating and the sun was dazzling against the bluest of skies. I nearly got blown off my feet taking photographs of the waves near the old boathouse. We made our way back across sodden pastures, wondering if it will ever dry up.
At the end of February last year there was the most wonderful Aurora borealis, and secretly I was hoping we might have a repeat a year later. Unfortunately whilst the aurora activity was forecast to be strong, the cloud cover was thick! One lives in hope. I did enjoy reminding myself of that night last year.
We still have a few spaces left in the cottages during April. Lambing will have started and the primroses and celandine will herald the beginning of the flowering season! I can’t wait to see what unfolds this spring and summer. If you have any queries about staying here, please get in touch!
