Mobile phone signal on Mull can be patchy – however now, at Treshnish, we have Vodafone 3G signal!!
You can pick up a signal at Haunn too, though I am not sure it is as strong as it is here at Treshnish – Farmer even phoned me from the fields below the house when he was feeding the sheep on Tuesday morning – for no better reason than just because he could! Standing at our garden gate, I did a download speed test on my mobile phone, and it was 15mb/s, which is better than the regular broadband speed on the island.
So how come we suddenly have mobile phone reception? We have to thank the Isle of Coll! Their Development Trust have spent a lot of time and energy negotiating funding and deals with the Scottish Government and Vodafone, which eventually paid off on Monday 16th March 2015, when the mast was finally switched on. We hoped we would be able to pick up their signal, but never dreamed it would be so strong. I have to say it is quite strange for us to suddenly have mobile phone signal, we had never imagined that we would get it, in such a sparsely populated area as this. At the moment it is a novelty to be able to text from home..
So for those of you who want to stay connected whilst on holiday, it is now possible to do that here using a mobile phone as well as the landline in the Phone Room!
