Last Friday heralded the start of our season – just in time for a Mull Easter. Regular weekly changeovers on Fridays and Saturdays and back to a routine! The winter has been pretty hard, in terms of weather and the challenges that gales and storms bring. We have had a steady flow of visitors throughout the winter – it is always nice to meet new faces and welcome back those who love Mull in the winter and visit again and again..
Nearly every cottage has had something new added or changed during the winter, thanks to the tireless efforts of N, our winter handy person. Probably not very exciting for anyone else but part of the continuing energy saving plan was implemented in the office too, replacing the old 35W strip lights for 5W LED strips instead – this was a suggestion from Stuart who did our Green Tourism Business Scheme audit last summer – we had been discussing how we could close the gap between the energy we consume in a year compared to the energy we generate – at the moment we are at about 85-90% depending on the weather and the number of guests staying. Therefore we need to save where we can, to balance consumption and generation during the course of a year.
We have lots of regular guests staying this week which is nice, families who come for a Mull Easter every year. Lambing will start just before the schools go back in mid April. We are hoping it will warm up a little by then. The sun is now setting to the north of the headland so we know the days are getting longer. The Aurora and the moon competed with each other the other night. I dont suppose we will see another aurora as strong as last week’s for years, and I am still basking in the excitement of it!
I know the summer season has begun for another reason too. We saw our first swimmers at Calgary yesterday. Please bear in mind as we drove past the almost naked father and son around midday yesterday the temperature reading on the car read 3 degrees! Brave holiday makers – we were impressed!
PS we have just had a cancellation in West Cottage from the 6th – 20th of June!
