We are holding an Open Farm Sunday 2018 event here at Treshnish in a few weeks time. We are combining it with the Mull and Iona Food Trail Moveable Feasts.
Open Farm Sunday
The idea of hosting events under the Open Farm Sunday banner came from the LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) organisation in 2006. Since then it has grown and grown, into an important annual event. Farms are taking part up and down the UK – including this one here on Mull! We hosted an Open Farm Sunday event in 2013 and thought it would make a change from the National Meadows Day to do it again this summer.
Moveable Feasts
The Mull and Iona Food Trail Moveable Feasts are in their third year this summer! They kick off on Monday 14th May with Supper with The Puffins. Next up is Open Farm Sunday at Treshnish! As in previous years, we are lucky to have Jeanette from Ballygown Restaurant involved and she will be bringing one of her wonderful picnics! We are hoping for good weather this year – we might even get to picnic in the Coronation Meadow. We have a wet weather plan if we need it – as we can picnic under cover in the big farm building!
How to book
There is no need to book the guided farm walk – just turn up. If you would like to take part in the Moveable Feast and enjoy a Ballygown picnic, please book by phoning Jeanette on 01688 500113. Please bring your own picnic if you would prefer.
What to expect
We will do a guided farm walk – duration about 2 hours. We usually walk along the track and into the Coronation Meadow at Haunn. Where we walk this year may vary from that. It depends on what is flowering at the time. Meet in Treshnish farmyard beside the farmhouse at 11.30. The Ballygown picnic will appear at 13.30. Please pay Ballygown for the picnic. We are asking for donations for the guided walk – for Mary’s Meals and Tobermory RNLI.
I am afraid we won’t have any lambs to be petted.
What to bring
Please come prepared for all weathers! Wear sensible walking boots or wellingtons if it is wet. We will be walking through fields and if it has been raining, the grass will be wet!
Dogs
If you bring your dog, it must be kept on a lead at all times.
