Short breaks in Middle Cottage
Having experienced the popularity of short breaks in the Shepherd’s Hut we have decided to offer them in Middle Cottage for the rest of the summer season! We hope this will suit those of you who cannot take more than a few days off, or are doing a road trip, staying in lots of different places. Arrival days are Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Thursday.
More about Middle Cottage
Middle Cottage is one of three blackhouses at Haunn, 2 miles off the main road, about 4 miles from the beautiful turquoise waters of Calgary Bay. Blackhouses were so named as the original interior would have a central fire place on an earth floor with the smoke doing out through the thatch roof. Rest assured, they have been modernised since then!
Middle has been a holiday cottage since the 1960s. With an open plan sitting room, dining kitchen and sofas by the cosy wood burning stove, prepare for relaxing evenings by the fire!
Walks near Middle Cottage
There are lots of lovely walks near the cottage if you don’t want to take the car. You can scale the dizzy heights of Cruachan Treshnish and admire the view north towards the Cuillins of Skye, west towards Tiree, and south towards Jura. The Cruachan, as we call it, is all of 700 feet above sea level. The views are wonderful though!
Eating out nearby
Calgary Beach is 4 miles away, and home to Robin’s Boat and Calgary Bay Co. The latter is in new hands, so why not go and pay them a visit? Delicious cakes and hot drinks! Robin’s Nest, beside the car park, sells the wonderful Isle of Mull Ice Cream, and is open when it is sunny!
