What to do in autumn on Mull
Autumn days on Mull herald the end of the summer and a transition to winter.

The magic of the autumn equinox
Equinocial days in the autumn always feel like an important milestone to me, as the days and nights are of similar length for a while. I begin to look forward to the longer evenings, and miss the longer days a little less.
Autumn weather
It is a classic time of year for the weather – as unreliable as it can be – impossible to plan. Come prepared for anything, with full waterproofs and bikinis. This autumn, this September we have experienced temperatures as low as 1C in the early morning, driving to a ferry before sunrise. And as hot as 25C in the middle of the day.

Quieter island
After the schools go back the island does begin to quieten down a bit. There are even parking places in the street in Tobermory. The cafes and restaurants are open – though the smaller ones locally might shut at the end of September.
Skeins of geese
Watch for skeins of Pink footed geese flying south, high in the sky.

Red deer rut
Listen out for the Red deer stags roaring on the hill above the cottages. What an incredible sound. And watch out, when driving at night, for deer on the road. They appear out of nowhere.
